2011, Unwritten

Like working on the next chapter in a book, 2011 is unwritten.  When we are entering uncharted territory, we need a compass or a map.  Without it, we can end up lost.  The same goes for life.  Our past choices and decisions have led us to where we are today.  Sure, life happens, requiring us to alter our course or make the most of a difficult situation.  But how can we make our life dreams come to fruition if we can’t think ‘em, write ‘em and speak ‘em?
So I propose the following questions for the coming year. Get out the pen and paper.  Turn off the phone and take some quiet time alone.  Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths, just focus on your breath as you breathe.  Then ask yourself these questions.  Write down the first thing that comes to mind when asking each question.  If nothing comes to mind just let your stream of consciousness flow from the pen, this will help you gain clarity of the question.

What do I want in the next year?
What do I want my life to look like?
What do I want my life to feel like?
What direction am I going in?  How am I going to get there?
What do I want to accomplish?  What are the steps to doing it?
What do I want to attract in my life?  What do I need to let go of so there is room for the healthy new in my life?
What do I want in family? Friendship? Love?

Natasha Beddingfield’s song, Unwritten sums it up here:

“I am just beginning
 pen’s in my hand
ending up planned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you can not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhabitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with eyes wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition
Sometimes my tries
Are outside the line
We’ve been conditioned
To not make mistakes
But I can’t live that way

Staring at the blank pages before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you can not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with eyes wide open
Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten”
